Hongjianhua: give bamboo another life with a carving knife

release date: to realize the load, deformation, displacement and other control methods of the universal experimental machine source: Guangming

he is the representative successor of Huizhou bamboo carving of the national intangible cultural heritage. After more than ten years of enthusiasm and perseverance, he "found" the nearly lost valve spring to ensure that the valve closely fits the Huizhou bamboo carving technology. Under his knife, bamboo everywhere was endowed with another kind of life

"strong she is waiting for me!" At 11:00 a.m., hongjianhua showed a picture in his circle of friends, a bamboo whip lying on the ground in a crack in the stone. In the afternoon, the bamboo whip was cut into two inch sections by him. He called this process "breaking bamboo and continuing bamboo". To his surprise, "there are several other solid bamboos, which are great. Solid bamboos can be used to carve animals and people"

although surprises don't happen every day, hongjianhua almost always spends his daily life like this: wandering around the mountains of Huizhou in his spare time, he sees suitable bamboos marked, pays a deposit, and then waits for the farmers to dig and deliver them

more often, he sits in his own Huizhou Sculpture Museum, reading, carving and tutoring students. He may not be eager to face the sea, but he also expects the spring flowers to bloom

expectation comes from childhood life. Hongkeng village, Huizhou District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, is a famous "Jinshi village" in southern Anhui. The small village has successively produced 18 Jinshi and one Jinshi. Hongjianhua's family is near a stone archway. "When I was a child, I used to lie on the blue stone strips of the archway in the summer to enjoy the cool. When I looked up, I saw the horse head wall of the Hui style folk houses. What attracted me most was the exquisite stone carvings on the archway and the wood carvings on the ancient folk houses.". Since then, young hongjianhua has set an ambition to learn sculpture

Huizhou has given hongjianhua a unique memory of life, and the Huizhou ancient motto of "selling land but not skills" has enabled him to establish his life dream

after graduating from middle school, hongjianhua studied carpentry with his uncle for three years, and successively studied brick carving and wood carving with local masons and carpenters. Later, he wanted to learn from the bamboo carving artist wangjinsheng, but Wang Jinsheng said to hongjianhua, "carving can't support the family. What are you doing with it?"

the "cold water" poured by wangjinsheng failed to dispel hongjianhua's obsession with bamboo carving. "I have never dreamed of Huizhou in my life." The bamboo forests all over Huizhou contain infinite vitality. He wants to express this power with bamboo carving art

once, in Tunxi Old Street, Huangshan, hongjianhua came across the bamboo carvings written by wangshixiang, a great connoisseur of cultural relics. This book seemed to open a new world for him. "Bamboo carving" combs the context, masters and masterpieces of Chinese bamboo carving skills in simple terms. "After reading it, I realized that the art of bamboo carving is so complicated and the cultural connotation is so rich." What made him more excited was that two of the "four gentlemen of Jiading" in the bamboo carvings of the late Ming Dynasty introduced by wangshixiang were Huizhou people, and zhusonglin, the founder of Jiading bamboo carvings, was also Huizhou people. "Huizhou has such an ancient craft. How can we bear to watch it disappear easily?"

hongjianhua is like a treasure when he buys the bamboo carving. In the 18 square meter rental house, he picked up the book and put down the knife. He also picked up the knife and put down the book. He taught himself the carving skills in front of the illustrations in the book and was intoxicated. "At that time, there was no income. Later, I tried to sell a bamboo carving" the Eight Immortals "to merchants. My psychological price was 100, but they were only willing to give me 60." Later, another merchant offered 300 for the purchase, which made hongjianhua regain his confidence

over the next ten years, hongjianhua immersed himself in the art of bamboo carving, and with perseverance, he even "found" the nearly lost Anhui style bamboo carving skills

in 2006, hongjianhua's Bamboo carving pen container, the Seven Sages in the bamboo forest, was permanently collected by the Palace Museum, which is the first modern bamboo carving art in the palace museum since the 1950s

in the same year, he finally met old wangshixiang. "There is hardly any furniture in Wang's family. He doesn't look like a collector at all." Later, hongjianhua learned that the old man had donated all his valuable collections. "Mr. Wang was very kind. He affirmed my basic skills and encouraged me to read more books and do more creative works to form my own style." With Wang Shixiang's encouragement, Hong Jianhua understood that to become everyone, we should not only "talk with bamboo every day", but also borrow more from the art of identification, "exquisite skills are the summary of art and wisdom, which should be inherited from the works"

2008, hongjianhua's Bamboo carving pen container Songhe Yannian was collected by China National Arts and Crafts Museum; In 2009, two pieces of boxwood pen container "farmhouse" and bamboo carving "Hui Xiang Xing" were collected by the China National Arts and Crafts Museum for payment; In 2018, the bamboo carving pen container "sage boating" was collected by the National Museum. He has also become a representative inheritor of Huizhou bamboo carvings, a national intangible cultural heritage, and a recipient of special allowances from the State Council

"in ancient times, the bamboo carving pen container was a big piece for the clean supply of the study, but today, how to combine this intangible cultural heritage technology with the cultural innovation structure to increase the error caused by the non close fitting of the mold parts is a problem that must be seriously considered." Hongjianhua said that the bamboo carving technique emphasizes skillful carving on the basis of raw material modeling, that is, the so-called "combination of material beauty and Craftsmanship". Different from wood carving, the wood is solid and the material is relatively uniform from the inside to the outside. Craftsmen have less restrictions on materials. "Bamboo has a hard skin, soft interior, smooth skin fibers and rough interior fibers, showing a rich fiber level beauty. At the same time, it also increases the difficulty for bamboo carving craftsmen to conceive and carve."

in hongjianhua's Huizhou Sculpture Museum, he showed a penholder: the bamboo skin grew into a double layer, and a vertical gap was formed at the overlap. Hongjianhua carved a "picture of visiting friends in the mountain", which was originally a special-shaped gap, which he skillfully processed into a valley. The two ancients who visited friends floated out of the valley on donkeys, looking lifelike. "In this work alone, four techniques are used, i.e. green carving, line carving, shallow floating carving and deep floating carving. Therefore, there is a sense of hierarchy and corruption can be turned into magic." Hongjianhua said, "on the contrary, the special-shaped bamboo will give the creator more imagination space. Only with the wisdom of bamboo and human wisdom can it become a work of art."

. There, hongjianhua and his more than 50 disciples inherited the most traditional bamboo carving skills with knives as pens and bamboo as paper. Under their knives, bamboo everywhere was endowed with another kind of life
